The fire began just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at 259 Jackson Ave., said Stratford Deputy Chief and Fire Marshall Brian Lampart.
When firefighters arrived at the "rooming-style" home they found residents leaving the home and one bedroom in flames, Lampart said.
Under the command of Assistant Chief Camperlengo, the crews were able to contain the fire to the room of origin and had it under control within 20 minutes, he added.
One occupant received fire-related injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The other rooms of the home were affected, making them unhabitable for the time being.
During the incident, Bridgeport and Milford fire departments covered in at Stratford Headquarters to provide coverage.
Red Cross also was requested to the scene to assist with providing shelter for the seven occupants that were displaced, Lampart said.
The Stratford Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
